Dear Everybody,
Today out of 54 nuclear reactors in Japan only 5 are under operation. By April all the 54 reactors will stop, if we manage to prevent restart of those which are stopped for regular check up.
Meantime, several scandals are exposed. It is reported that three Stress Test Hearing Committee members including its chairman receive financial support from the nuclear industry. On Jan 13 t...hree Japanese Mafia members are arrested for illegal recruitment of nuclear workers in Ooi Nuclear Power Station. This Ooi Nuclear Power Station is the first one to be restarted if it passed a Stress Test.
A final Hearing Committee meeting will be held on Jan 18. Whether Ooi Reactor 3 and 4 will be restarted or not will affect restart of the rest of reactors in Japan.
Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power accident has affected the whole world with spread of radioactive material in 10 days. In other words, Japan's nuclear power policy is not only a Japanese problem but a worldwide problem. We can not let these Committee members expose us to a risk of yet another Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident happening. Can the world trust and allow these three Stress Test Hearing Committee members to make a judgement on the test? Please send your opinion to Nuclear Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) by Jan 17, a day before their meeting.
We Japanese no-nukes groups and individuals submit the following petition:
1. Dismissal of Stress Test Hearing Committee members who receive financial support from the nuclear industry.
2. Retracting the decision to shut the public out of the room where the Hearing Committee on Stress Test will take place.
I attach below an edited version of a petition in English.
